DONATION OF LIBRARY BOOKS TO FOUR BASIC SCHOOLS IN CAPE COAST.

On Friday, 19th September, 2025 at exactly 10:00 a.m., a special ceremony was held at the University of Cape Coast Junior High School to present library books to four basic schools in the Cape Coast Metropolis.

The beneficiary schools were Mary Queen of Peace Catholic School, Flowers Gay School, Calvary Hill Crest School and the University of Cape Coast Junior High School, all in the Cape Coast Metropolis in the Central Region.

This donation was initiated by Ms. Kendra Addo and her friend Ms. Allyson Fritschet, both grade 12 students of Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School in Canada. The initiative began as a book drive project in 2024 to promote the power of books in inspiring learning.

In attendance at the program were Mr. and Mrs. Kyei Mensah, the grandparents of Ms. Kendra Addo; Representatives of the University of Cape Coast Junior High School, teachers and students from the beneficiary schools. Each beneficiary school was represented by two teachers and two students. Mary Queen of Peace Catholic was represented by Rev. Fr. David Ocran, Madam Bridget Nagoing, Hadijah Napoa Azonko and Ann-Marie Ewurabena Eshun.
The program commenced with an opening prayer by Rev. Fr. David Ocran followed by the introduction of those at the high table and a self-introduction by all the participants.

In an address read on behalf of the donors, Mrs. Charlotte Kyei Mensah gave a brief history of the BOOK DRIVE Project and its intended purpose of supporting schools in Ghana. The BOOK DRIVE Project seeks to increase the stock of books in school libraries and promote a strong reading culture among students.

In addition to her address, the official handing over of the books to the various beneficiary schools took place. The headteacher of the University of Cape Coast Junior High School expressed deep gratitude to the donors and advised beneficiary schools to take good care of the books and make use of them in order to build a strong reading culture in their schools.
The event attracted media coverage and the beneficiary schools had the opportunity to glance through some of the donated books.

The ceremony ended joyfully. Teachers and students of the beneficiary schools interacted and exchanged pleasantries. At exactly 12 noon, a closing prayer was offered by Rev. Fr. David Ocran with the final blessings.
